Our History
Welcome to the website for The Black Political Caucus of Cabarrus County (BPC)! This organization began in January 2020 as an organization to address the political, social, and economic needs of persons of color in Cabarrus County to positively impact the community. The BPC of Cabarrus County started when Councilwoman Diamond Staton-Williams of Harrisburg, NC, noticed a lack of diversity when attending a meeting and felt that Cabarrus County needed an organization to address the unique needs of its Black constituents. Councilwoman Staton-Williams took her idea to two other individuals, and a plan was formed to create this group. The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County was instrumental in mentorship to help create a counterpart for Cabarrus County, which also compromises the Greater Charlotte area. The first meeting was held on January 16, 2020, at New Life Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC, with approximately 35 persons from the community of diverse backgrounds. The next meeting was held in February 2020 at New Life Baptist Church to draft and create the BPC’s Constitution and By-laws. The next meeting was held at Grace Lutheran Church in Concord, NC, in which committees and leaders were organized.
