Summary of each amendment
SB 921
North Carolina passed voter ID laws in 2018, requiring all in-person voters to present ID to vote. SB 921 requires absentee voters to include identification with their mail-in ballot. This merely adds a burden to marginalized people who may or may not have the correct identification. This may also make challenging ballots, as was done with Justice Riggs in 2024, much easier as challengers could target individuals based on race, as opposed to zip code or geography.
HB 1090
Strict property tax limits likely mean cuts to the local services that we all rely on.
Targeted property tax relief is a far better tool to address housing affordability.
SB 1080
An income tax cap of 3.5 percent would:
Income tax is the major source of revenue for the General Fund and most aligned to people’s ability to pay.
Income tax limits don’t impact the total state and local taxes paid by North Carolinians.
Capping income tax rates is rooted in racist ideas about who should have a say in tax policy.
